Have you heard of mmmcosmo? If not, search it on Instagram! Maddie Madhani (11) started her own makeup business exactly one year ago. Madhani grew an aspiration for makeup her sophomore year after watching makeup tutorials from famous Youtubers.

“I’ve always had a passion for makeup, and as I came across Youtube one day, scrolling through videos, I came across some beauty gurus and fell in love with Jaclyn Hill,” said Madhani.

Madhani learned specific tips on makeup use such as what type of brushes to buy, what makeup brands work best, and how she should apply makeup. Once Madhani had perfected her skill, she took it to the next level by practicing on others rather than herself.

One of her closest friends was the first to try out Madhani’s skills.  Tara Moyers (11) tested it out and loved it!

“It’s an advantage to know a makeup artist around your town but it’s even better when it is one of your best friends,” said Moyers.  Madhani then continuously  practiced her skills on her closest friends, who were always satisfied with the creative look Madhani had came up with.

With the encouragement from her friends and family, Madhani began her own Instagram  account, where she could connect with girls who could ask her for beauty tips or schedule appointments to have their makeup done. She started off with posting pictures of different looks on different people, and got noticed instantly.  She named her account mmmcosmo after her first, middle, and last name.  “Cosmo” came from cosmetology.

“People saw that I can do makeup, not only on myself, but people with different skin tones and conditions as well. When the Homecoming dance came around, I had a few people asking me if I could do their makeup, and without a doubt I accepted the offer,” said Madhani.

Madhani began charging girls $20 for a full face of makeup and $15 for just eyes.

“Compared to stores likes Mac or Sephora, the minimum price is $50 and I thought starting at $15-$20 would be perfect.” said Madhani.

Eventually, especially around special events, Madhani drew in students from Libertyville, Mundelein, Grayslake Central, Stevenson, and Vernon Hills for this past homecoming dance.  She had over 10 clients have their makeup done, who all had great experiences.  Not only is this an advantage for Madhani to work on her makeup skills, this allows her her to meet new people around the area and make new friends.

“When doing makeup, I try to make conversations with the girls.  I love meeting new people and by starting my own makeup business it allows me to do that,” said Madhani.

Madhani continues to buy and test out new products for better looks and easier techniques. She is constantly  posting on her makeup account on Instagra, to show off her amazing skills.  Madhani loves to try out new makeup looks in her free time and especially when she is accumulating new products. She will post photos of her new look on her Instagram account at least twice a week.  Madhani has been noticed by over 300 people in the past year. People from all over the community reach out to her for makeup tips and appointments the more she shows off her skills on social media.

Madhani aspires to be a makeup artist one day.  She would like to have more of a professional company where she can do people’s makeup and possibly sell her own products in the future.

“I hope one day mmmcosmo will grow big and be noticed all over the country.  Hopefully, I will start my own makeup line and come up with my own products.”

Madhani’s passion for makeup has grown exponentially over the past year.  In hopes of a successful future, she continues to work hard to find new looks and better products to not only satisfy her needs but the clients as well.
