Colin Alexander, Staff Reporter
Colin was abandoned by his parents in a small hut in San Pablo at the age of four. For 400 days and 400 nights, he huddled in a corner next to a man-made fire in order to maintain warmth. Reaching for a thin piece of wood, he found a small number two pencil. He believed that feeding his brain was more important than feeding the quenchable fire beside him, so he wrote. He wrote and wrote until his hand was numb with repetitive motions and then he wrote some more. At the age of 18, he was rescued by a group of Malaysian tourists. They brought him to a small classroom where bright lights sliced through his dark-adapted eyes. They formed him into someone fit for what society had become. But he was a changed man now. All he knew to do was write.
That is the story of how Colin Alexander became a journalist.
