Students enjoy physical activity
Benching 235 or squatting 400, are these some of your goals? According to the CDC, the benefits of regular physical activity are undeniable. Engaging in a consistent exercise routine at the gym promotes cardiovascular health, muscle strength, flexibility, and overall physical well-being. Whether it’s cardio workouts to boost endurance, weightlifting to build strength, or yoga to improve flexibility, doing daily physical activity offers a diverse range of activities to cater to individual fitness goals for many of our students at VHHS. “A lot of research has shown recent scientific evidence that lifting weights and strength training is a paramount of health, especially at a young person’s age. So, starting a strength training program early is a good habit for a young person to create,” said Physical Welfare teacher, Kurt Krupa. Individuals who engage in regular exercise have stated that they are confident in their daily lives. “It’s important how vital movement and exercises are for a person’s physical health, mental and emotional health. I really find it fulfilling to offer students a variety of ways to move their body into exercise that are hopefully engaging and fun for them,” said Krupa. Ana Pucetti (12) has been going to the gym since the start of high school and believes that the gym has helped her on a daily basis. “The gym has made me a more confident person,” said Pucetti. The gym serves as a foundation for a more routine lifestyle, according to Pucetti. ¨I’ve been going to the gym since 2021, and now I can’t live without it. It’s the part of my routine I am most excited about¨ said Pucetti. Stellan Simeakis (12) has been going to the gym on a daily basis since 2021. “It allows me to get toned and in shape, and gives me something to do in my pastime,” said Simeakis. Achieving these goals, whether it’s running a certain distance, lifting a heavier weight, or mastering a new yoga pose, instills a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. Pucetti said, “It has allowed me to feel comfortable in my own skin.”Not only is going to the gym good for physical health, it also helps with other aspects of life. ¨I think the gym has developed qualities in me, such as working hard and being able to have good time management skills,¨ said Tyler Cherwenka (12). Cherwenka goes to the gym regularly, and he attends the Lifetime Gym in Lincolnshire. Engaging in exercise is a source of motivation and it creates friendships, according to Cherwenka. ¨I find motivation at the gym because I get to work out and spend time with my friends,¨ Cherwenka said.
