Is abusing animals worth being beautiful?
when applying make up, do we ever think of what we are actually putting on our faces. I woke up one morning and decided to turn my foundation bottle around, and I was flabbergasted by the number of ingredients that were put into this small five ounce bottle. As I sat there trying to pronounce these words that most wouldn’t be able to comprehend, I realized that it was likely 90 percent of these ingredients were chemical-based. I was so appalled that I have completely changed my routine since.
I was finally on a search to find vegan and cruelty-free makeup. Being vegan is a way to have a huge, positive impact on the environment. A vegan diet only consist of plant-based foods, which excludes eggs, dairy, meat, and fish products. Veganism stretches beyond just the food you eat, but it also deals with the clothes you wear and the products you use.
Vegan makeup isn’t just about the natural ingredients that are used in it, but also the process that the makeup goes through in order to get in stores. Most makeup is tested on animals so that they know how it will react to human skin. each year more than 100 million animals such as mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds are killed in the United States laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. If the numbers are so drastically high, why is no one trying to stop this. In PCRM’s survey more than 72 percent of the people said that testing cosmetics on animals is unethical. They also stated that they agreed to the finding new alternatives for cosmetic testing due to the extreme abuse of animals coming out of the process.
However, there are so many other ways that you can test makeup; it doesn’t need to be tested on animals in order to find the best formula. Looking into vegan makeup, I noticed a multitude of improvements: it is cleaner and fresher for the skin and is made with natural ingredients. By buying products that are cruelty-free, and/or vegan, one can personally positively impact the environment and try to put an end to animal abuse.
Vegan makeup isn’t the easiest thing to find in the market, but I have spent a long time searching for the best products around. Some of my favorite brands include Inika Adorn, Milana, and Mineral Fusion.
Inika is is quite expensive: all of their products range between 29-65 dollars; but the quality is amazing. Another higher end brand is Adorn cosmetics, which has been always been vegan and they are dedicated to producing the best vegan products around. Their products are not only beneficial for the animals, but also beneficial for the environment.
However, since the aforementioned products are quite expensive, there are great alternatives. Take Milani, which is a very affordable brand that has amazing quality. All of the products ranging from 5-10 dollars. You’re able to find this brand at any local drugstore around. Another one that I found to be excellent in quality is known as Mineral Fusion. Mineral Fusion is dedicated to making organic products that are made with all natural ingredients that not only make the skin look beautiful, but also replenish it with all natural oils and vitamins.
When trying to find makeup brands that you trust and that are promised to keep their products vegan and cruelty-free, you have to look at the history of the brand name. Some brands have started to create vegan lines, while others have always been dedicated to this lifestyle ever since they started creating the brand in the first place.
Some of the best brands around are Cover FX, Axiology, Spectrum, Kat Von D Beauty, B. Beauty, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, and PHB Ethical Beauty.
Cover FX was created and developed by former chief chemist and MD at MAC cosmetics, and it’s no secret that Cover FX products have become some of our most popular picks. All products in the range are cruelty-free and vegan.
Axiology is a vegan lipstick brand that’s dedicated to producing creamy, pigment-packed lipsticks in a spectrum of shades from jet-black to poppy red.
Spectrum is a brand that carries 100% vegan brushes, which is very hard to find. You may have heard of this brand all over Instagram due to how bright and beautifully colored they are. Not only are they picture worthy, but the quality is amazing. The looks are just an extra bonus.
Kat Von D Beauty, earlier this year, announced plans to reformulate her entire cosmetics line to ensure every product was vegan. While the process takes a while, she already has a section of her website titled #VeganAlert, which is full of products that do not contain any animal products or byproducts and have not been tested on animals.
B. Beauty is exclusive to Superdrug, which means it’s totally wallet-friendly. Their website explains that B. Beauty “does not contain any animal derived ingredients or byproducts, even beeswax which can often be found in mascara.”
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is known for their ultra-bright shades, dreamy neutrals, and intensely pigmented formulas. The most important thing is that they do this 100% vegan and cruelty free. Some people fear that vegan makeup isn’t as pigmented and long lasting, but that is false, and this brand will prove you wrong by the quality they’re giving you.
PHB Ethical Beauty pride themselves on making cosmetics with safe, natural, organic ingredients; their products are cruelty-free, vegan, and 100% halal certified, plus they come in some killer shades.
So what’s the purpose of being aware of your makeup that you’re using? Think about it: why would you want to be applying chemicals to your face? Vegan makeup (cruelty-free) is made from all natural ingredients that replenish your skin with natural minerals. It’s not only healthy for your skin, but it is also important for the environment. Animal Cruelty is something that needs to come to an end. So by using products that are fighting against this inhumane problem, we can put it to an end if we start to become aware of what we are using. It is time to give animals the rights they deserve. And a way to combat this problem is to start buying vegan, cruelty free makeup.
