1908-2016: Cubs making history
108 years– yes, it has been 108 years since the Cubs have won the World Series. 108 years ago we had players such as Mordecai Brown, Johnny Cling, and Joe Tinker. These were players to make history. Now we have Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, and the fastest pitcher in the MLB, Aroldis Chapman. These players were the next set to make history. History that will be told for decades to come. But remember the Cubs weren’t always good. They used to struggle with the easiest of games. They didn’t work as a team and definitely weren’t as talented as they are now. The Cubs were “terrible” for many decades. But what happened? Over time the Cubs started to pick up new players that gradually added to the level of talent on the team. A few years before we won the World Series, the Cubs started to improve a lot and the fans saw a lot of potential for a chance in the playoffs once again. Now look where we stand. Winning the World Series definitely sparked those fans and players into never giving up on a team that was once terrible.
Game one of the World Series: Cubs let up two runs just in the first inning leaving them 2-0. The second and third innings had zero runs for both teams, leaving the score 2-0 for the Indians. Once they reached the fourth inning, the Indians got one more run, putting them up at 3-0 until the 8th inning, where the Indians then got three more runs to end the game with 6-0.
Game two of the World Series: Right in the first inning, the Cubs were up 1-0 until the third inning, where the Cubs got another run, leading them 2-0 against the Indians. Then, in the fifth inning, the Cubs got three more runs! A huge inning for the Cubs leaving them 5-0. The Indians struggled the past few innings with getting any runs, but once they reached the 6th inning Cleveland won that inning leading them 1-0 for the 6th. The game ended without any more runs throughout the last innings of the game. Resulting in the Cubs winning game two, 5-1. Leaving the World Series as a tie, 1-1.
Game three of the World Series: This game was something else; there were no runs for the first six innings of the game, then all of the sudden the Indians scored one run in the seventh inning. This left the Indians up in the series, 2-1.
Game four of the World Series: Right in the first inning, the Cubs scored one run leading them up in the game, but one they hit the second inning the Indians scored 2 runs, which left the Indians winning by only one run. Then the Indians scored again in the third inning putting them still up at 3-1. There were no runs in the fourth and fifth inning. Once the Indians hit the sixth inning they scored one, and in the seventh inning they got two more runs leaving the score at 7-1. Right towards the end the Cubs scored one more run leaving the last score to be 7-2. The Indians won game four. Leaving the series 3-1 with the Indians up.
Game five of the World Series: This was a very important game for the Cubs. If they didn’t win this game then that was it, the Indians would win the World Series. The first inning started off with no runs, but once we hit the second inning, the Indians were leading 1-0. During the fourth inning the Cubs got three runs leaving the score at 3-1, but then in the sixth inning the Indians scored one again, leaving the final score a win for the Cubs 3-2. Making the series with three wins for the Indians and two wins for the Cubs.
Game six of the World Series: This game was definitely one to remember. In just the first inning, the Cubs scored 3 runs to start off the game with a big lead. Than going into the third inning the Cubs got a grand slam!!!! The Indians came back during the fourth and fifth innings, by getting one run for each inning. Still leaving them way too far behind to catch up. The score sits at 7-2 going into the 6th- 8th inning. During the ninth inning the Cubs got two more runs and the Indians got one, leaving the score at 9-3 for the final. Now the series was tied 3-3. Next game is going to determine the win of the world series,
Game seven of the World Series: This game, by far, was one of the most emotional rollercoaster games that have ever been on TV. The game started off with the Cubs getting one run in the first inning and the Indians starting off with nothing. Which gave the Cubs an advantage. Going into the second inning no runs were in place, so when it came to the third inning; the Cubs needed to get a swing off the pitch. But instead the Indians got one run and the Cubs got none. Making the scored tied 1-1 going into the fourth inning. This inning the Cubs had a major lead by getting two runs, making the score 3-1. In the fifth inning they tied up by both getting two runs for each team. Now making the score 5-3. The sixth inning only had one run by the Cubs now making the score 6-3. The Cubs have a big lead but it didn’t last for long. Going into the eighth inning the Indians got three runs, now making the score 6-6 going into the last inning of the game. It is fair game for the World series win. The Cubs ended up getting two runs and the Indians getting one. Winning the game 8-7, the Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series since 108 years ago.
