In a world ravaged by war and terrorism and faced with the effects of climate change and the threat of nuclear annihilation, only one person is fit to lead this nation.
That person? Hillary Clinton.
Clinton’s life-long devotion to public service would make her the “most qualified person to enter the White House in modern history,” said Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
Living in a world of unprecedented turmoil on every front makes Clinton’s experience necessary, earning her extensive endorsements from across the political spectrum, including: the Obamas(D), former Attorney General of Arizona Grant Woods(R), former Presidents George H.W. Bush(R) and Jimmy Carter(D).
Clinton’s platform is the most progressive platform in the Democratic party’s history. This is absolutely crucial with issues concerning income inequality, gender inequality, racial tensions, discrimination, economic regulation, education, and more. Not only are Clinton’s plans innovative, they are coherent.
Gun control has become a polarizing issue, causing members of Congress to struggle to compromise on reform.
However, “91% of Americans say that there should be at least minor restrictions on gun ownership,” according to ontheissues.org.
Thus, Clinton’s plans for comprehensive reform are absolutely needed. Her three basic points include expanding background checks, taking on the gun lobby, and preventing criminals, the mentally ill, and domestic abusers from purchasing guns.
Because background checks can be bypassed at gun shows and on the internet, nearly anyone can get their hands on a gun. Clinton wants to curb this by closing these loopholes and strengthening the background check system in general.
Clinton plans to take on the gun lobby by “removing the industry’s sweeping legal protection for illegal and irresponsible actions” said Clinton.
Clinton plans to bring about economic equality through her five-point plan. These points include an intensive 100 days, making college debt-free for all Americans, regulating the activities of companies, corporations, and Wall Street, and enacting family friendly policies.
In her first 100 days in office, Clinton’s economic concerns deal with trade, infrastructure, and energy. Not only does she plan to strengthen trade enforcement, but she contrasts with Obama in terms of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP); she opposes it because it doesn’t meet her standards for creating enough good paying jobs. In terms of infrastructure, Clinton plans on investing in that- along with manufacturing, research and technology, clean energy, and small businesses- for economic gain. Finally, Clinton has large goals for America’s energy production.
“I will make the U.S. the clean energy superpower of the world—with half a billion solar panels installed by the end of my first term and enough clean, renewable energy to power every home in America within 10 years of taking office,” said Clinton.
Clinton plans to make public universities debt-free, depending on a family’s income: if it’s $125,000 or less, they will not have to pay tuition at in-state four-year colleges and universities. For those who have already attended college and are burdened with debt, Clinton will allow them to refinance their student loans.
Another pressing concern that Clinton plans to resolve is outsourcing. Clinton will reward companies that remain in the country and invest in their workers. When companies shift profits overseas to avoid paying taxes, however, Clinton will make companies give back the tax breaks they avoided.
Clinton wants to ensure that not only is existing Wall Street reform enforced, but strengthened. Moreover, she wants to make sure that the wealthiest Americans cannot avoid paying their “fair share” of taxes. This will ensure that her administration does not add to the national debt.
Finally, in order to ensure economic equality, Clinton will enact policies that directly address struggling families. These policies include raising the minimum wage, fighting for equal pay and guaranteed paid leave, and providing relief from rising costs of living.
The “fight for $15” is a hotly debated topic, but outstanding evidence from the U.S. Department of Labor points to that increase actually “stimulating the economy.”
According to the Balance, an online newspaper that specializes in finance, Clinton’s economic plan will “boost, create, and support economic growth.”
Given all of the tensions and wars around the world, the next president must be adept at forming positive diplomatic relationships, cooperating with others, and being highly informed. Clinton rises to all of those qualifications with her experience as Secretary of State alone.
The primary duty of the Secretary of State includes: “carrying out the President’s foreign policies,” said the U.S. Department of State.
Some of the most critical relationships that America has are those with Russia and ISIS.
Tensions with Russia are high as ever because of the conflict in Syria, Russian hackers, and Putin’s expansion of power through the annexation of Crimea. Clinton believes that it is absolutely necessary for America to have a certain degree of control over Russia because she dislikes Putin’s foreign policy, which includes his control over bordering countries, dislike to work with the West, and his role in the Syrian conflict.
America and Russia are enemies in the Syrian civil war. In this proxy war, Russia supports Syria’s leader, Assad, while America supports the Kurds, an ethnic group, and the rebels. Russia began bombing all anti-Assad rebels in September 2015, though it claimed to be bombing ISIS. Clinton refers to Putin’s actions as “bullying.”
“It is not acceptable for him to be in Syria bombing people on behalf of Assad, and we can’t do that if we don’t take more of a leadership position, which is what I’m advocating,” said Clinton.
ISIS is unique in its use of social media to recruit jihadists around the globe. Thus, a president with a detailed, coherent strategy is desperately needed to combat this terrorist force.
Clinton has a three part plan to go after ISIS: territory, network, and safety. In this plan, Clinton will expand airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, hinder ISIS’ social media outreach, and work to resolve the refugee crisis.
Between gun control, the economy, and foreign policy alone, the role of commander-in-chief will not be an easy one to fill. A person with a great deal of experience, intellect, temperament, passion, and tenacity is needed. That person is Hillary Clinton.
