VHHS 2015 year in review
2015 was such a fantastic year for Vernon Hills High School. As a school, we excelled in sports, fine arts, and academics. Looking back, we all have so much to be proud of. Hopefully this can refresh your memory.
January:
- Backlight Theatre Company attends Illinois High School Theatre Fest at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Aubrey Black (12) and Mia Candocia (class of 2015) as part of the cast of the All State Production of “Pippin
February
- “Winterfest premieres as the winter dance for the first time.” – Mrs. Oliver
- Backlight Theatre Company performs “The Bomb-itty of Errors”, a play performed 100% in rap.

March:
- Concert, Men’s, and Treble Choir toured Amsterdam, Brugge, and Paris singing throughout churches and schools
May:
- Brian McDonough (class of 2015) is crowned Top Cougar at the Saturday Night Live themed competition, with Mia Candocia (2015) the first female contestant.
June:
- Boys Volleyball ending their season after school ends with a second place state championship trophy
- Farewell to the Class of 2015
August:
- Vernon Hills staff and students visit our African sister school for two weeks
September:
- Kickoff Dance reaches an all time attendance record
- “My favorite part of freshman year so far was kickoff dance because the senior lip sync battle was funny. I’ll probably do it by senior year” – Rachel Wright (9)
October:
- Football team made it to the playoffs for the first time in a while.
- The Class of 2017 wins color wars for the third time in a row.
- “Losing Color wars for the the fourth year in a row” – Kelly Davis (12)
- 24 French foreign exchange students stay with host students from both LHS and VHHS
- Boys Golf won 4th place in the state championship
- Hogwarts themed homecoming with Queen, Sneha Sivaram (12), and King Jeet Nair (12)
- Girls Cross Country takes 3rd in state competition
- $6,000 was raised for VH alum, Tierney Darden at Varsity soccer and football games.
- “I enjoyed the fall choir concert because our theme was no words so it was fun trying something else” – Rachael Lichtman (11)
November:
- “Little Shop of Horrors” is performed featuring a gigantic human eating plant.
- Newspaper and Yearbook attend a journalism conference in Orlando Florida and visited Disney World.
December:
- “Walk a Mile in Her Hijab” is started and makes national news. Photo: Daily Herald

- “Over $1,000 was raised for our African sister school at the Variety Show” – Mrs. Beagle
