Showcasing The Donald
The lunacy of Donald Trump’s campaign has been attracting much media attention, especially as critics realize he is actually gaining voter support. From segments of Trump calling all hispanics “illegals,” to publicly calling out Rosie O’Donnell during a GOP debate, The Donald is definitely deserving of his abundant publicity. The 69 year old real estate mogul, television host, and author has just recently pledged to the Republican party. Previously he was undecided, rumored to be running as an independent. The possibility still exists, however, that Trump at the last moment withdraws his pledge and chooses to run as independent, as several of his policies are not supported by the rest of the GOP.
It is also possible that Trump does not receive the full support of the GOP, given his remarks against Jeb Bush, calling him “weak” and a “total disaster.” Taking it one step further, Trump even Tweeted “#JebBush has to like the Mexican illegals because of his wife!” For those who don’t know, Jeb Bush has a hispanic spouse. Evidently, Trump is not big on being political correct. This philosophy is held so dearly by Trump that it has actually become a part of his campaign- that Americans in general have become too politically correct. As global economic crisis nears upon us and as we begin to deal with a European refugee problem, Trump realizes our time is better spent addressing these issues rather than our choice of words. As Donald elegantly stated during the GOP debate, “I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people and I don’t, frankly, have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time, either.”
Let’s take a closer look at Trump’s position on various topics:
Immigration- Notably his most controversial stance, Trump is very strict on immigration. He has released statements saying all illegals should be deported and children born from illegal immigrant families should be sent back, violating their birthright citizenship. That being said, Trump agrees that legal immigration has many benefits, both social and economic, and legal pathways should become modernized and more efficient, thus removing the need for illegal immigration. As he states, “[We should] build a wall with a big beautiful door for legal immigration.”
Military- Avidly outspoken on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, Trump still believes our involvement in the Middle East should be kept to a minimum. That being said, he believes our nuclear arsenal is very outdated and plans on spending money renovating nuclear facilities. Furthermore, he believes American military has many inefficiencies which he thinks he can solve. He promises to keep a strong relationship with Israel and will provide military support if necessary.
Economics: An active businessman, Trump is extremely well aware of both America’s domestic economy and its place in the global marketplace. His aggressive policy would focus on curbing outsourcing, bringing jobs back to America. Furthermore, Trump is the only candidate to publicly address China’s devaluation of their currency (this process makes their goods more favorable for other countries to import, thus making American goods more expensive in the global marketplace) and plans on taking measures to curb this. Finally, Trump has proposed extremely low taxes, with brackets as follows: 1%-5%-10%-15%, meaning the poorest would pay 1% of net income while the richest pay 15% of their net income. He believes the federal government has more than enough capital, but it is not spent and proportioned efficiently. Currently, the richest bracket pays 39.6% while the poorest pay 10%. Under his proposal taxes would be drastically reduced for all tiers alike.
