Students volunteers listen as Karen Day explains how to cut down buckthorn, which harms oak trees native to the area. “If you look carefully, you can see oak trees smiling because of it,” she said. “Our native trees, they need us.” Students will visit Lake County Forest Preserve to help remove the invasive species.
