Recently, Vernon Hills High School Freshman Lauren Costin won a national championship for synchronised skating with her team. Lauren answered a few questions with The Scratching Post about her experience with skating.

The Scratching Post: When did you start skating with your synchronized team? Lauren: I’ve been skating since I was three. I started synchro when I was five, but I’ve been skating with this team for two years now.

TSP: What do you love about skating the most?
Lauren: I love skating because I get to hangout with my friends, it keeps me in shape, and it makes me stay organized in school.

TSP: What was it like skating at Nationals with your team?
Lauren: It felt great, like it could have been a dream. The feeling I got was excitement.

TSP: What would it mean to you if/when synchronized skating is added to the Olympics?
Lauren: It would mean that the sport I’ve dedicated so much time to would be recognized by the world more and that people would hopefully be able to understand it more, too.

TSP: Finally, what are your goals for the future?
Lauren: My goals are to go to a college with a skating team and compete at a higher level, and possibly become part of team USA.
