Childhood TV shows and movies brought back to life

A lot of the older TV shows and movies that we used to watch years ago are being brought back in a new way. For example,  Boy Meets World and That’s So Raven are both being revived with a Disney spinoff, and Jumanji is coming back to life with a new reimagined version in 2017.

Boy Meets World (1993-2000) — Girl Meets World (2014-Present):

Boy Meets World: A show that follows the story of two best friends named Shawn and Cory as they endure their middle school through college years. Their teacher, Mr. Feeny, is Cory’s neighbor and mentor, and he teaches the boys valuable life lessons throughout the series. Near the end of the second season, Cory begins to show interest in a girl named Topanga, they date for the majority of the show, and end up getting married during the final season. The final episode shows Cory, Shawn, and Topanga all moving out to New York after Topanga is offered an internship at a law firm. Before leaving, they all pay Mr. Feeny a visit to reminisce about all of the great times they had together.

Girl Meets World: A Disney show that basically picks up where Boy Meets World left off. It is centered around the life of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley, and her best friend, Maya, as they go through their middle and high school years. In the original series, Cory’s teacher, Mr. Feeny, apparently inspired him, because in the spinoff, Cory is his daughter’s history teacher for multiple years. When Cory isn’t teaching in the classroom, he is teaching the girls and their friends valuable life lessons as they overcome the obstacles of growing up.

That’s So Raven (2003-2007) — Cory in the House (2007-2008) — 2017 Spinoff (TBD):

That’s So Raven: One of the classic Disney shows from our childhood, right alongside Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Lizzie McGuire. That’s So Raven followed the life of a teenage psychic named Raven and her best friends Chelsea and Eddie as they grew up and went to school. The main plotline of every episode was basically about Raven having a vision of the future, misinterpreting it, getting her and her friends into crazy situations, and having to solve whatever problem they create. This is a show that will live on in Disney history for being Disney’s first show to hit 100 episodes and is appealing to people of any age group that are willing to appreciate its greatness.

Cory in the House: A short-lived spinoff of That’s So Raven that featured Raven’s little brother, Cory, and their father, Victor, when he got hired to work as the personal chef at the White House. This was Disney’s first spinoff show, and featured Cory as he navigated his new life after moving from San Francisco to Washington D.C. and attending a new school.

2017 Spinoff: In October of 2016, it was announced that Raven Symoné will be producing and starring in a sequel to her original Disney series. The overall plotline for the sequel is similar to that of Fuller House, a spinoff to Full House that was released this year on Netflix. In the sequel, Raven is a single mother raising her two children, Nia and Booker. It is said that Nia will inherit Raven’s psychic powers once she gets to middle school. Major fans of the original series, like myself, were excited to find out Anneliese van der Pol would be returning to reprise her role as Raven’s best friend, Chelsea, as a divorced mother who is raising a son, and moves in with Raven.

Jumanji (1995) — Jumanji (2017):

Jumanji original: A 1995 classic that is centered around a young boy named Alan Parrish (Robin Williams), who gets trapped in a board game while playing with his friend, Sarah, back in 1969. Then 26 years later, a new family moves into Alan’s old house, and their children, Judy and Peter, find the game, start playing, and release Alan. Their main goal in the movie is to finish the game and survive all of the wild animals and deadly obstacles that the game releases along the way.

Jumanji remake: A remake of the classic movie has just finished production, and is said to be set to release on December 22, 2017. The movie is going to star Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillian, and Nick Jonas.  However, in this re-imagining of the original film, the tables have been turned, and we get to see what the Jumanji world is like. The plot is centered around four teenagers that get sucked into the board game, and in order to escape with their lives, they have to play as characters from the game and manage to beat the game from the inside.
