As the football team enters their new conference this year, they face new challenges and opportunities.

Coach Greg Stilling says there are many pro’s and con’s of the new conference. This year we joined the Central Suburban League, because in our old conference, some of the schools our size left, and we decided to join the new conference and play schools our size.  Although we haven’t faced any of these teams before, the schools are all close to our size and they aren’t as far away. We don’t have to worry about going against schools the size of Stevenson since we are in this new conference. The part that makes the transition to the new conference difficult is that we don’t know these teams and they don’t know us. All of the previous scouting that we have done is now useless, and each week the boys don’t know what they are going up against.

“This year there isn’t going to be a week of practice where the boys take it easy because they are going up against a team like Round Lake Mr.Stilling said there is never going to be a guaranteed win.” Mr.Stilling hopes the boys are putting in all of their effort every practice. Every week will be a new challenge, but that is what is going to make this season unlike any other.

Team manager Anthony Berktold (11) explained the new conference and the differences that there have been in practice. “My favorite thing about football is rounding the team up under the Friday night lights,”Berktold said.  There isn’t anything that he is particularly nervous for because we have a strong team, but he believes that our defense could be a little more aggressive. “This year’s conference is going to be different, but it will be fun because it’s different.”

Team player Mac Vincent (12) is most excited for the homecoming game because of the atmosphere and the amount of fans that show up for that game. He also says that this year is a great opportunity for the team to challenge themselves and practice has been much more focused.

All in all, the football team is ready to take on a new challenge, and they are hoping to have an amazing season. This season will test their ability to work as a team and take on challenges together, so far they have proven that they work well together.
