Come on let’s dance!

Get ready to eat, play and dance because February 20th, 2016 is the second annual Winterfest at VHHS! The idea of a casual dance came from the popularity of the school’s Kick Off dance at the beginning of the year. However, in addition to just a DJ and lights, the gym was filled with music, food, photo booths, and blow up games. There was also a lounge and more games for a fun break from the music and main events.

Working in collaboration with Boom Tour for a second year, Student Council is working hard to make the Winterfest 2016 dance bigger and better.

This year, there are major plans in the works to make the night greater than a typical school dance. Continuing with the Black Ice theme, students will be asked to wear casual black clothes on the night of the event. The week prior to the dance will be filled with fun spirit day dress up themes for each day of the week.

The Student Council Executive Board has been meeting with local restaurants to ask for any food donations for the event.

“It can be awkward asking at first,” said Student Council Executive Board Member John Powell (12), “but we’re lucky that our community really wants to do anything it can to support our school.” So far, they have donations from Chick-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, Halsted Deli, Potbelly, and Maciano’s. Powell said they are still working with a few other local owners to get the most food possible for our students.

In addition to food, like always, there will be a DJ and fun lights to pump up the vibes in the gym. Student Council Executive Board Member Lauren Katz (10) said that they will be debuting “a new song request list before the dance to help ensure that the students hear their favorite music.”

Additionally, this year’s dance will have food tables, a chill lounge, photo booth, and a blow up laser tag arena.

On the night of the dance, February 20th, tickets at the door are $30. But, if you buy them during your lunch period from the 15th through the 19th they’re $25. Two-day early bird tickets, the 11th and 12th, are further reduced to $20.

The week of the event, the 15th through the 19th, tickets will cost students $25. Finally, on the night of the dance a ticket will cost students $30 at the door.

“The price is $10 off an average dance ticket when you get it early, so that’s not only a great money saver but also an incentive to get your tickets early and encourage others to go too,” said Student Council Executive Board member Connor McNamara (12).

It’s hard to deny music, laser tag, and unlimited delicious food for just $20, so mark your calendars for the year’s Winterfest dance on February 20th at 7:30pm!
